Prov.: Excavated by Dr. Monroe in Sacquarra in the 1950's, via descent to his niece. Estate acquired by Dr. G. Smith and sold to present collector.
Similar rudimentary shabtis are often found inscribed in yellow paint. This example does have yellow paint spots and traces but they are unfortunately no longer readable.
Although these black with yellow painted shabtis are often found in the 19th dynasty, I date this shabti to the end of the 20th dynasty based on the short wig. Similar shabtis can be found in the Petrie musuem, UC 40014 (dated to the 21th dynasty) and in the Allard Pierson musuem, see CAA Amsterdam, page 27.
